Relaxed and exotic renovation
History of the pool
This pool was originally constructed as a brick and buttress pool with a vinyl liner, as the interior surface.
Client brief
The client required a pool area make-over, which included a bigger and deeper pool than the existing pool. Further, the vinyl liner showed signs of deterioration. The surround of the old pool was quite dated. As a brick and buttress construction has a structural limitation with regards to depth, we agreed to alter the construction to a concrete and plaster pool, which has more flexibility in terms of structural limitations.
Demolition and excavation.
This part of the construction process was not without potential problems. We had to gain access via a friendly neighbour’s driveway. We focussed on maximum protection of the driveway, preventing damage by the excavation equipment, by placing boards on the drive. Cleaning the drive was achieved by high-pressure cleaning. By paying attention to detail we averted a potential problem of damage to the neighbour’s property.
Materials
Formwork, steel fixing, and concrete spraying were achieved on time and on budget.
Bull nose coping – Natural stone.
Waterline tile – Porcelain.
Surround – Liquid Limestone.
Water Feature – We used the existing stack stone screen wall. The challenge was to integrate the existing wall with the swimming pool. This was achieved by constructing a two tear Travertine waterfall to reach the pool edge. All plumbing is remotely controlled.
Lighting- Remote controlled aqua delight (LED)
Plaster- Rainbow quartz turquoise.
Pool heating- Viron gas heater with solar supplement.
